Traditional tatami mats consist of a core made from compressed rice straw and a surface woven from igusa rushes. This tatami mat takes a modern approach: the surface is made from washi (Japanese paper yarn), whilst the core features a robust sandwich construction – wood fibre board, styrofoam, wood fibre board. Thanks to its construction, the tatami mat is both robust and pleasantly light. The washi surface is colourfast – retaining its colour stably for years to come.
