The folding table is modelled on the table in the dining hall of the Nigatsudo Hall of the Todaiji Temple in Nara. The hall is famous for the spectacular 1000-year-old Buddhist Omizutori ritual, which uses fire and water to mark the end of winter. The Folding Table is the modern translation of the Nigatsudo Table. While retaining the original character, the Japanese company Oak Village has incorporated the spirit of modern Japanese craftsmanship into the product.
