Made in Japan: this bench was conceived as a collaboration between British designer Jasper Morrison and Japanese designer Wataru Kumano as part of More Trees – a forest conservation initiative founded by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto in 2007. The hinoki wood is sourced from the forests of Higashi-Shirakawa in Gifu, a region with a long tradition of timber craftsmanship. Hinoki is considered a refined material in Japan: distinctive in scent, durable, and used for centuries in temple and bathhouse construction. The bench connects designer, craftsperson, nature and space – and sits naturally within the world of Sato.
