An Evening with Sanae Sakamoto

The exhibition began with the strike of a gong: at the opening evening on 18 September 2025, Sanae Sakamoto presented a captivating performance on the tatami stage in the courtyard of Sato at Ausstellungsstrasse in Zurich. Before a packed house, she created two ink paintings – 'Bamboo' (Take) and 'Dream' (Yume) – accompanied by the sound of Japanese instruments played by her son. With assured brushstrokes and concentrated composure, she held the audience captivated. The exhibition rooms were filled with creative artistic intensity that evening.

Exhibition running until March 2026

Sato is honouring the Japanese artist Sanae Sakamoto with a comprehensive solo exhibition running from 18 September 2025 to 21 March 2026. The artist continues to work daily on new pieces – art that touches, provokes thought and brings joy in equal measure. Each brushstroke reveals its own narrative.

On display are 70 recent works ranging from classical calligraphy through contemporary ink painting to traditional scroll paintings. The works are distributed across several exhibition rooms and are all available for purchase – a rare opportunity to bring original Japanese art into one's home.

Further opportunities to meet the artist

Anyone who missed the opening evening or the matinee on 21 September 2025 will have another opportunity to meet Sanae Sakamoto in person. On Thursday, 4 December 2025, she will give a performance from 5 pm and then talk about her artworks. Registration is not required.
